OIT Seeks Mission-related Opportunities for Application of Technology

  • November 27, 2008
A group of OIT students have recently begun being involved in a variety of IT projects and websites to support mission-related activities with technology. This marks OIT's continuing effort in supporting Christian ministries and finding opportunities for students to apply their skills in information technology.

Students are helping international mission agencies, local churches, and even collaborating with other colleges.  In one recent project, OIT students built and programmed a website in order to promote a Thanksgiving Retreat co-sponsored by Olivet Theological College & Seminary (OTCS).  The retreat, which will be hosted at First Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, has benefited from the website in terms of planning and marketing this mission-oriented event to people all around the Bay Area.

Feedback from the students working on these projects indicate a strong sense of contribution to the University's mission statement which includes preaching "the Gospel effectively into and after the 'network generation'".  As more OIT students are applying their skills in a variety of applications,  OIT will be putting further effort into opening up opportunities for students contribute to Christian mission.
