Student Research Supports Server Upgrade

  • September 22, 2009

Olivet Institute of Technology research teams  -- one of Olivet University’s largest student-led research programs -- exemplifies the University’s commitment to providing educational research opportunities for students at all levels.

This fall, students participating in research at OIT are leading an upgrade to the University’s server monitoring and firewall system with help from Olivet Information Systems and R&D units.

The upgrade will make for a more powerful server that is easier to manage, with enhanced security features. Student researchers are applying skills from courses like NS310 Network Concepts and Foundation, NS410 Computer Networks & Security, and WE420 Web Server Design & Development, as well as professional conferences and seminars to carry out the server upgrade.

Students and faculty are finding an enriching and rewarding experience in this fall’s OIT research project. Many faculty members, including research program coordinator Olivet Institute of Technology Dean Dr. Ching Cheng Lee value student research participation and are willing to suggest suitable projects.

Please contact the College program director for more information on research opportunities at Olivet Institute of Technology.
